1,500 m2 of Flowcrete’s Deckshield ID polyurethane deck coating system have been installed on the roof-level helipad at Nambour General Hospital as part of a wider multi million-dollar Government funded refurbishment project.

Nambour General Hospital is a large regional public hospital located in the Sunshine Coast servicing Nambour and the hinterland region.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Cameron Dick said that funding has been used to upgrade critical health infrastructure requiring urgent maintenance.

"Our government recognises the need to maintain and improve health services, no matter where they are located.

"We have injected $2 million into the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service to fund important refurbishments and maintenance works at Gympie and Nambour General hospitals." said Mr Dick.

Upgrade works to the helipad were critical in preparation for a new larger, faster and better equipped fleet of aircraft set to be used by the hospital to deliver emergency medical care to patients across the Sunshine Coast.

Deckshield ID in a grey shade, incorporating bright demarcation and signage was selected to protect the helipad.

The Deckshield ID system was specified largely due to its effective anti-slip profile and ability to cope with heavy-duty wear and tear.

Deckshield ID is a low VOC, solvent free, flexible polyurethane deck coating system providing a colourful, watertight and hardwearing surface coating.

As is the case with most helipads, the Nambour General Hospital helipad was originally constructed from concrete and had to be decorated with a letter ‘H’ as well as marked with a circle so as to increase visibility from the air.

"We're committed to ensuring the facilities in Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service are enhanced and appropriately equipped to deliver vital health services," added Mr Dick.
