The centre’s previous finish was showing signs of age and wear, with cracks and patches of failure spoiling the site’s aesthetics and in some places creating slip hazards. To revitalise the floor around the 25-metre heated swimming pool and make it a safe and attractive space again, 400 m2 of the polyurethane coating system Flowsports ED was installed.
Flowsports ED’s flexible membrane was ideal for addressing the pool deck’s extensive cracking problem by creating a seamless, impervious and easy to clean new finish.
The waterproof system consists of a blend of grey coloured sands encapsulated in a clear polyurethane sealer. The coloured sand provides a textured finish to enhance traction underfoot and ensure that the floor across the pool surround reduces potential slip hazards.
The new finish was applied on a slight slope to ensure that the inevitable splashes and spillages of water run quickly towards the drainage incorporated into the floor.
The aquatic area is adjacent to the facility’s gymnasium. This posed a challenge for applicators, as the gymnasium remained open throughout the installation process. The low odour nature of Flowsports ED minimised any disruption as it meant that fumes did not disrupt visitors to the gymnasium.
