Flowcrete Australia recently completed a high profile collaborative project at the 15,000 capacity RAC Arena.

The existing court flooring was failing to cope with the constant hive of activity and heavy traffic at the arena, which plays host to basketball, netball and tennis matches.

As a result the stadium management team knew that they would have to improve the surface before the start of the prestigious Hopman Cup tennis tournament, which was soon to be staged at the venue.

The increased scrutiny that a major sporting event would bring meant that a high class flooring solution would need to be specified, which is why Flowcrete’s Deckshield UV was chosen as a protective coating due to its ability to cope with high frequency traffic movement.

From the time the Perth Wildcats had finished their basketball game on the Friday night, Antiskid Industries’ team of licensed contractors moved in with four large floor grinders to remove the failing coating and prepare the 2000sqm stadium bowl for the fast track installation of the new deck.

By the following Wednesday, the installation of the solvent-free polyurethane protective coating, Deckshield UV, was finished and the stadium was ready for action again, but with a decking system more suited for the level of traffic expected.

"The Bowl Floor 2600m², was done in a Sky Blue colour (RAL 5012) prior to Christmas 2014, and almost one year later and several high energy concerts, still looks like new,” said Eric Bentley, RAC Arena, Building Works Manager.

The new deck coating from Flowcrete offers an attractive, hardwearing, easily maintainable system, which incorporates a high level of slip resistance and the client was thrilled with the end result.
