The existing floor in the main kitchen was suffering from maintenance difficulties, with on-going grout cleaning problems and water penetrating through various cracks in the floor.
This meant that the floor needed to be rectified by installing a food grade, hard wearing, seamless finish, incorporating excellent impact, chemical and slip resistance.
With this in mind 700 m2 of Flowcrete’s rapid curing coloured Flowfast Quartz flooring system was installed, as it meets all of the aforementioned criteria and is typically ready for normal use 90 minutes after application.
Flowcrete's exclusive Western Australian applicator, Antiskid Industries had to complete the installation overnight, as the kitchen needed to be fully operational by 5am each day, in time for the start of the daily workload.
Flowfast Quartz is ideal for use in production areas, kitchens and wet and dry processing areas where the floor is subject to heavy traffic, impacts and chemical spills.
The installation also featured different coloured flooring for the three access areas for easy user identification: green for the public access locations, red in the service foot traffic areas and blue for the production room floor.
The next stage of the project will see Flowfast Quartz installed as 200 mm high coving, creating a seamless transition between the floor and the wall to ensure that dirt and bacteria cannot get trapped in the gap between the two surfaces.
