The large, multi-purpose complex was designed to house a number of different service areas, including an Isuzu Truck workshop and washbay, Isuzu Ute workshop and a used car workshop.
These environments would place a number of challenges and demands on the site’s floor area, including not only traffic and point loading from exceptionally heavy vehicles, but also spillages of automotive oils and chemicals, impacts from dropped tools and equipment as well as prolonged exposure to hot water in the washbay.
To achieve a floor that was up to the task at hand, Multiblast Flooring installed 4,000m2 of the highly durable cementitious urethane system Flowcrete SR was installed in a cool grey colour. Its thick, seamless nature means that it can withstand abusive conditions for a prolonged period of time while continuing to provide an attractive, easy to clean surface.
The light, contemporary tone of the floor not only created an attractive surface but it also meant that the white line marking and yellow warning cross-hatching would clearly stand out against the grey backdrop.
Drainage was installed into the Flowfresh SR floor in the washbay so that the water would quickly flow out of the building and coving was applied along the edge between the floor and the wall, ensuring that no water or contaminants would get trapped in this gap. The walls in the truck wash were also covered with Flowcoat UV to provide a chemical resistant, easy to clean coating.
4,000m2 of Flowseal UV was applied across the facility’s floor to provide a UV stable finish. This was important to protect against damage caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight, as the new building’s design allows for light to pour in from the sides of the workshop.
