Located within the grounds of Fairholme College is Fairholme Aquatic Centre, which features two heated indoor pools, a 25m eight-lane lap pool and a 10m three-lane instruction pool. The schools aquatic centre provides aquatic programmes for not only the Fairholme College students but also to the wider community.
The school’s aquatic centre was in need of an upgrade as the existing floor around the swimming pool surround was cracking. This cracking was not only unsightly and an unsafe trip hazard, but it was also causing structural damage as water was penetrating into the underlying concrete slab.
To revitalise the area 600m2 of Flowsports ED in contrasting shades of grey was chosen to provide a trafficable waterproofing finish across the pool surrounds, starting blocks and the grandstand. This specification would ensure that the finish would not fail when faced with high volumes of foot traffic, long-term exposure to water and regular cleaning.
Flowsports ED is a low volatile organic content (VOC), solvent free, flexible polyurethane coating system which has been designed to create a colourful, crack bridging and waterproof finish.
The entire project, which included refurbishing the internal swimming pool, was completed over a four-week period. Once finished, both the school and the local community would be able to use a swimming pool that looks clean, modern and which will support the site’s day-to-day activity for an extended period of time.
