The primary objective was to create a high-performance and aesthetically pleasing floor that would meet the demanding needs of the racing team. In discussions with team leaders, it became clear that both performance and appearance were equally vital to the project.
The existing concrete floor was severely deteriorated and required extensive preparation to ensure a suitable foundation for the new flooring system. This involved the removal of multiple layers of paint and contamination, which posed a significant challenge.
Ascoat utilised their large diamond grinders and shot blasters to effectively prepare the concrete surface, with the floor patched and filled to address any imperfections. To facilitate the suspension and chassis setup work, a specific 120m2 area required a “very flat floor” which Ascoat conducted through surveying, pinning, and levelling to meet this requirement.
Flowshield SL, Flowcoat OP, and Deckshield UV were utilised to create the required seamless floor with the colour “Lightbox Grey N33” chosen to contrast with the dark-painted walls, creating a more spacious and inviting space. A fine non-slip texture was added to enhance both safety and ease of maintenance.
Upon completion of the project, hoists were installed, and the cars were rolled in just in time for a “coffee and cars” morning with the BMW club. This event showcased the race car setup alongside classic Aussie muscle cars, highlighting the successful transformation of the space.
