The Blacktown Aquatic Centre in Western Sydney has a strong athletic pedigree, having been the site where four time Olympic Medallist Kieren Perkins broke the 800m Freestyle world record in 1992 as well as the training facility for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
To continue to nurture Sydney’s swimming talent it needed to refurbish the floor throughout the male, female and disabled amenities areas including changing rooms, showers and toilet facilities as the existing tiles were showing signs of age and wear.
Flowfast SRQ was chosen for the task thanks to its easy applicability, colour and functionality.
350m2 of the fast curing Flowfast SRQ was installed within the aquatic centre, creating a decorative and anti-slip finish in only seven days. This solution could be applied directly on top of the tiles, removing the need to take up the previous floor and allowing the centre to return to business as soon as possible.
The floor was chosen in a Blue Granite Blend to add a bright and vibrant tone into the amenities areas. Blacktown Aquatic Centre knew that the durability of the system meant that it would retain a colourful, unbroken finish despite the wear and tear that hosting over 50 swimming meets each year would inflict on the floor.
The seamless and impervious nature of the 4mm trowel applied topping system meant that any water on its surface could easily flow into the drains incorporated into the finish. This would not only help to keep the floor clean but would also avoid water pooling for long periods of time or becoming slip risks.
