Oostra Spice Company

HACCP Accredited Facility Requires New Flooring

Victorian spice merchant, Oostra Spice Company, has been supplying the Australian market with premium herbs, spices and Mélanges (blends) since 1983. In order to guarantee the best spices and herbs in the current market, the company travels the world to source and meet with the finest suppliers.

The Oostra Spice Company is aware of the importance that building design plays to maintaining the quality of its produce. So when its HACCP accredited facility required a floor coating that would provide an easy to clean, durable surface for the site’s blending, packing and warehouse areas, the business specified a solution from Flowcrete Australia that would meet its high standards for hygiene, functionality and durability.

To achieve this, over 1,200 m2 of the heavy duty resin system Flowcoat UV was installed in a range of bespoke colours, including Neutral Grey, Pipeline Grey and Homebush Gold, to provide a UV stable, highly chemical and abrasion resistant sealer, ideal for warehouse facilities.

The striking Homebush Gold colour was required specifically for areas that handled the vibrantly yellow coloured turmeric spice, as it is known to stain the surrounding environment.

The seamless and impervious finish that Flowcoat UV creates would make it very easy for Oostra Spice to clean away any spilled spices, dirt or contaminants on the floor. Flowcoat UV’s durability means that it will be able to maintain these hygiene critical properties despite the inevitable challenges that floors in F&B processing and storage areas face – such as frequent cleaning, the movement of wheeled equipment, point loading from heavy machinery and pallets and exposure to corrosive food substances.
