The new footbridge is twice as wide (4.5m) and taller than its predecessor, with a traffic clearance of 5.5m. The project has been jointly funded by Hornsby Shire Council and the NSW Government to improve transport access and general amenities within the local area.
Around 300m2 of Flowfast SRQ - in a bespoke Salt & Pepper decorative quartz colour blend - has been used to coat the new footbridge over an installation period spanning just three days.
The system was selected as a result of Hornsby Shire Council requiring a long life cycle, hard wearing, UV stable material to coat the structure as well as being suitable for application on both the concrete ramp leading to the footbridge as well as the steel substrate of the actual bridge.
In addition, the footbridge required a P5 slip rating to reduce the chances of slips and trips. A combination of bauxite and aluminium oxide aggregate was used within the Flowfast system to provide the required anti slip profile without the risk of any premature wearing of the surface profile.
